SUMMARY:CANCELED: Sketches of Minnesota: Civic Community Comedy Revue
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED BY THE PRESENTER. \nThe Minnesota Humanities Center (MHC) and Danger Boat Productions would appreciate the opportunity to talk about our upcoming Sketches of Minnesota special events: the second annual “Sketches of Minnesota: Civic Community Comedy Revue”. Sketches of Minnesota is a traveling program designed to increase understanding and encourage conversations among people who might not know each other or have differing viewpoints\, by bringing neighbors together over a shared meal and improvisational comedy. These kinds of conversations are more crucial now than ever\, and we think that the program can facilitate essential healing within our Minnesota communities. \nPlease help us share and amplify this tour and join us for the second annual Sketches of Minnesota: Civic Community Comedy Revue. \nMinneapolis – Tuesday\, March 10 – 7:00pm to 8:30pm (doors open at 6:30pm) Luminary Arts Center\nMinneapolis – Wednesday\, March 11 – 7:00pm to 8:30pm (doors open at 6:30pm) Luminary Arts Center\nRochester – Friday\, March 13 – 7:00pm to 8:30pm (doors open at 6:30pm) Rochester Civic Theatre \nThrough an epic partnership established in 2024\, MHC and the comedy team at Danger Boat Productions spent late summer and most of fall traveling to communities across Minnesota. They’ve taken stories from each town and put them into a hilarious sketch comedy revue. It’s like going along on the year-long Sketches of Minnesota road trip\, but you get to enjoy the highlights from the comfort of a theater seat…without the backseat driving. \nImagine the joys of a 9-city road trip. Braham (try the pie!). Edge of the Wilderness (literally). Fergus Falls. Fosston. Minneapolis. New Ulm. Otter Tail County (no actual otters were observed). Rochester. Rosemount. Now\, imagine going along on that trip with some of the funniest people in Minnesota\, and without the bugs on your windshield\, unplanned road construction\, backseat driving\, or GPS failures. And the whole thing takes less than 90 minutes. \nThis fully scripted show – unlike the typical Sketches shows which are entirely free-form improvisational comedy – will take you on a journey to the nine communities across Minnesota from our 2025 tour. We will deep dive into the foundation of Sketches of Minnesota performances: what makes us different and what makes us alike. \nAbout Sketches of Minnesota \nCo-produced by MHC and Danger Boat Productions\, Sketches of Minnesota was hosted by 10 communities across the state in 2024. The performers learned directly from residents what makes their community great\, what people get wrong about it\, what divisions concern them\, and what they imagine for the future when they work collectively with their neighbors. In each town\, the Danger Boat troupe listened in on dinner conversations and then brought the stories and ideas to the stage. After the show\, MHC facilitated a discussion to find out what stood out\, what made them laugh\, what gave them pause\, and what surprised them. Consistently\, the final theme for the events is a positive message: we have more similarities than we know\, and these conversations lead to a greater willingness to listen to one another. \nAbout the Minnesota Humanities Center \nMHC\, an affiliate to the National Endowment for the Humanities\, was founded as an independent non-profit organization in 1971. MHC strengthens our society by promoting the humanities and increasing shared understanding of our collective pasts. MHC creates a wide variety of humanities programming in collaboration with individuals\, creators\, scholars\, and organizations to build a more curious\, inclusive\, and connected society. MHC has a long history as a grantmaking organization and operates a full-service event center in a historic building in St. Paul. More information is available at mnhum.org. \nAbout Danger Boat Productions \nDanger Boat Productions is a Minnesota-based comedy and creative engagement company that uses improvisation\, storytelling\, and live performance to help people make sense of complicated ideas and one another. Founded by improvisers and civic facilitators\, Danger Boat creates original comedy shows\, participatory events\, and workshops that blend humor with listening\, curiosity\, and care. Their work spans theaters\, community spaces\, conferences\, classrooms\, and public forums\, with projects designed to foster connection across differences and invite audiences into meaningful conversation. Best known for programs like Sketches of Minnesota and The Theater of Public Policy\, Danger Boat Productions partners with civic institutions\, nonprofits\, universities\, and communities to explore public issues through comedy that is thoughtful\, accessible\, and deeply human.

SUMMARY:Body as Voice—Young Dance Student Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Young Dance proudly shares the dancers’ hard work in this year’s school showcase. Students and their Teaching Artists have created dances underscoring their artistry and the collaborative community that Young Dance fosters. \nAt Young Dance\, each year is guided by a central theme. This season\, we’re embracing Body as Voice\, exploring how dance can empower individuals to take agency and find their voice\, enabling them to speak up for themselves and others. SUMMARY:The Joy List
DESCRIPTION:The Joy List  is a powerful original dance theater production that follows one man’s journey through love\, loss\, and rediscovery.  Inspired by the play “Every Brilliant Thing” (coming to Broadway featuring Daniel Radcliffe) this dance theater production brings to life all the little things that spark joy. \n \n\n\n\n\nAs a child\, Chris’ mother encourages him to  begin a list of things that spark joy—ice cream\, water balloons\, soccer—but as life takes its turns\, the list is lost\, then found again at just the right moment. Through emotional storytelling and evocative movement\, The Joy List  is a moving celebration of hope\, resilience\, connection and the everyday sparks of joy that keep us going.

SUMMARY:Vision Forward
DESCRIPTION:Join us this April for Vision Forward\, the second season of ARENA DANCES’ debut as a contemporary repertory company and a defining moment in our 30th anniversary year. Rooted in collaboration\, courage\, and the transformative power of dance\, this program brings together a powerhouse ensemble of dancers—Nieya Amezquita\, Alex Arce\, Non Edwards\, Sarah McCullough\, and Jake Nehrbass—for an evening of world premieres by four commissioned choreographers whose voices span generations\, geographies\, and aesthetics. \nThis repertory season marks a bold evolution for ARENA DANCES\, deepening long-term artistic relationships and investing in sustained creative process. Through this model\, dancers and choreographers work closely over time\, allowing for risk\, trust\, and a shared physical language to emerge—resulting in performances that are both rigorous and deeply human. \nMinnesota-based choreographer Wynn Fricke brings her singular\, intuitive approach to the stage. Described by the Star Tribune as a “choreographic shaman\,” Fricke is known for creating powerful\, timeless works that explore the human condition. A seven-time McKnight Fellow and founder of Borrowed Bones Dance Theatre\, her choreography has been presented nationally and internationally\, including commissions for Zenon Dance Company\, Ragamala Dance\, and Minnesota Dance Theatre\, where she served as Resident Choreographer. \nNew York City–based artist Wendell Gray II contributes an emerging and highly acclaimed choreographic voice. A dancer\, choreographer\, and educator\, Gray’s work has been presented at Danspace Project\, Movement Research at Judson Church\, and Gibney. A 2025–2028 Jerome Hill Fellow and Movement Research Artist-in-Residence\, he has been recognized for his bold experimentation and was recently nominated for a Bessie Award for Outstanding Breakout Choreographer. \nMinnesota native Shane Larson\, now based in New York City\, brings an interdisciplinary practice that bridges dance\, video\, sound\, and technology. A longtime member of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company and a 2021 Bessie Award recipient\, Larson’s work investigates memory\, identity\, and physicality through richly layered performance. His recent projects include participation in Jacob’s Pillow’s inaugural Choreotech AI Lab\, placing his work at the forefront of contemporary performance and innovation. \nCompleting the program is Assaf Salhov\, a New York City–based choreographer\, dancer\, and Artistic Director of Le Ballet Fou. Known for his immersive and theatrical approach\, Salhov has created and presented over fifteen works across Israel\, Europe\, and the United States\, with performances at Jazz at Lincoln Center\, The Shed\, and international festivals. A longtime performer in Punchdrunk’s Sleep No More\, his choreography draws audiences into richly physical\, cinematic worlds shaped by collaboration across disciplines. \nTogether\, these four world premieres reflect ARENA DANCES’ Vision Forward—a commitment to artistic depth\, living-wage employment for dancers\, and the belief that dance thrives through sustained relationships and bold creative exchange. As we celebrate 30 years of making dance accessible to all\, this season invites audiences to witness what becomes possible when artists are given the time\, trust\, and support to imagine forward.

SUMMARY:Sacred Earth
DESCRIPTION:Ragamala Dance Company \nNEW DATE*: Thursday\, April 30 2026 7:30PM\nFriday\, May 1 2026 7:30PM\nLuminary Arts Center \n*Please CLICK HERE for information on the date update.  \nSacred Earth\nBy Ranee and Aparna Ramaswamy\n \n\n“Ragamala\, directed by the mother-daughter team of Ranee and Aparna Ramaswamy\, is an excellent company. Their devotion to the Bharatanatyam style and to treating that lineage as a living language is always radiantly clear.” — The New York Times \nRagamala Dance Company’s signature work\, Sacred Earth is a powerful\, hour-long journey of movement and music that celebrates the beauty and vitality of the natural world. Performed as a continuous arc of high-energy dance and evocative poetry\, the work unfolds like a living ritual. \nInspired by the ephemerality of the Indian art forms of kolam rice flour drawings\, Warli wall paintings\, and ancient Tamil Sangam poems\, Sacred Earth reflects Artistic Co-Directors Aparna Ramaswamy and Ranee Ramaswamy’s singular vision of the delicate\, interdependent relationship between humanity and nature. The performance becomes an invocation—reminding us that we are not separate from the earth\, but deeply woven into its breath\, rhythms\, and fragile continuance. \n60 minutes\, no intermission \n  \n\n\nThis performance is made possible in part by the Bridge Fund for Dance program through the City of Minneapolis Arts & Cultural Affairs Department\, and by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

SUMMARY:Biomes
DESCRIPTION:Analog Dance Works presents Biomes\, a contemporary dance production that journeys through tundras\, greenhouses\, fresh waters\, and the vast lands of suburbia to viscerally question our relationships to our natural world. \nThis show is a practice of curiosity\, questioning boundaries\, listening\, and forgiving. It comes from a place of deep emotional currents running below the surface that grapple with how and why we utilize our natural resources recreationally\, economically\, and spiritually. We are searching for pastures where we don’t just coexist with nature\, but merge with our beautifully complex environmental surroundings in unconditionally profound mutualism. \nBiomes brings forth the perspectives of four of its artists: Brenna Mosser\, Sophia Pimsler\, Addie Smith\, and Ruby Smith of RJDT. Each choreographer is working with very different concepts\, but are entwined together around a central question: what is our relationship to the natural environments that we dwell amongst?

SUMMARY:Triple Espresso: A Highly Caffeinated Comedy
DESCRIPTION:Triple Espresso: A Highly Caffeinated Comedy is back in Minneapolis\, MN for 3 weeks only at the Luminary Arts Center (North Loop near Target\nField). \nTriple Espresso tells the story of three guys whose bid for showbiz fame and fortune ended in 4-minutes of magnificent failure on national television. Hugh Butternut\, Buzz Maxwell\, and Bobby Bean tell their rags-to-rags story earnestly\, with hysterical results. Butternut is a musician\, a vulnerable soul with a lounge lizard smile; Maxwell is an uncertain magician with an attitude; and Bean is an irrepressible\, all-over-the-map entertainer with big dreams. The laughter is infectious\, and the comedy appeals to everyone from first graders to college students to baby boomers. \nDuration: 90 minutes. No intermission. \nComing with a group? Groups of 10+ can get $5 off per ticket! Please call the box office at 612-333-6669\nto get group pricing. \nImportant Seating Information:\nThis venue features stadium-style seating that ascends from the stage. For guests who may have difficulty navigating stairs\, we recommend selecting seats at cabaret tables or within the first few rows for easier access and comfort. \nWhere is the Venue:\nThe Luminary Arts Center is located at 700 North 1st Street in Minneapolis’ historic and vibrant North Loop neighborhood\, just steps from the Mississippi River and nearby popular landmarks like Target Field\, the Stone Arch Bridge\, and the Guthrie Theatre. The Luminary Arts Center is located a few doors down from the iconic Acme Comedy Club and a few blocks away from the best restaurants in town. \nParking:\nTwo well-lit parking lots are located directly across from the Luminary Arts Center (Luminary Arts Center Lot/Itasca IMPARK Lot). Additional street parking is also available\, with many meters that are free after 6pm. The Luminary Arts Center is easily accessible via public transit and rideshare services. \nAccessibility:\nThe Luminary Arts Center features elevators and ramps for easy accessibility.
