SUMMARY:Groove Pitch Series
DESCRIPTION:Join us at our fall pitch event. We heard from angels that they want more opportunities to look at local deals together. So let’s do it! \nWe’ll hear pitches from local startups from a variety of industries\, showcasing a great cross-section of Minnesota’s ecosystem. The pitches will be short and quippy\, with plenty of time to network with other early-stage investors and directly meet the founders. But this isn’t a pageant\, showcase\, or competition (no participation ribbons here!)…these are real opportunities. \nPlease note: This event is not accepting founders seeking to pitch. \nWho is this Event for?\nEarly stage investors regardless if you are a solo angel\, part of a network\, or in a fund (you don’t need to be part of Groove to attend) \nFounder curious to invest in other startups \nIndividual interested in starting their investment journey \nCommunity partners working with early stage investors

SUMMARY:The Hunchback of Notre Dame silent film with LIVE ORCHESTRA
DESCRIPTION:Leo Presents invites audiences to experience a breathtaking new production of THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME silent film with LIVE ORCHESTRA at Luminary Arts Center in Minneapolis’s North Loop. \nHome to the Minnesota Opera and other acclaimed acts\, Luminary Arts Center will serve as the stage for this extraordinary cinematic concert featuring the 1923 Universal Studios monster silent film. Crafted by local composer Philip Shorey\, the production combines an original score with an international 50-piece orchestra\, choral ensemble\, Renaissance band\, theatrical special effects\, and a rock ’n roll inspired light show. \nBased on Victor Hugo’s timeless 1831 gothic novel\, The Hunchback of Notre Dame tells the story of Quasimodo\, the bell-ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral\, and his enduring love for the beautiful dancer Esmeralda. Set against the tragic backdrop of 15th-century Paris\, this dark romance explores themes of compassion\, prejudice\, heroism\, and virtue. \nThis immersive presentation brings new life to a beloved story\, combining the power of orchestral performance with the magic of cinema. \nShorey has built an international reputation for reimagining classic silent films for modern audiences. His productions have headlined major music festivals and sold-out concert halls throughout Europe and the United States. This Halloween marks his return to Minneapolis for the world premiere of his latest original work: THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME. \nAudience Attire: Guests are encouraged to embrace the spirit of the evening by dressing in their favorite Renaissance-inspired costume attire. \nParking: Convenient event parking is available directly across the street from the venue for $6\, making for an easy and enjoyable night out in Minneapolis’s vibrant North Loop district. Street parking is also free after 6pm.

SUMMARY:time signature
DESCRIPTION:time signature\, presented by University Dance Theatre\, brings together three distinctive choreographic voices in a dynamic concert performed by Dance students and directed by Laura Selle Virtucio. The program features a 30-minute restaging of Bill T. Jones’ Story/Time\, reimagined by members of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company and Assistant Professor Carlo Antonio Villanueva; a new work by Marjani Forté-Saunders; and new choreography by Professor Ananya Chatterjea. \nInspired by the musical meaning of “time signature”—the rhythm and meter that shape a musical movement—the title also speaks to the distinct imprint each choreographer makes in time. Together\, these works create a conversation across generations\, artistic practices\, and perspectives\, brought to life by the individual and collective voices of the performers.

SUMMARY:Under Midwestern Skies: Argento & His Students
DESCRIPTION:Minnesota Opera continues to celebrate the music of Dominick Argento at the centenary of his birth and his legacy both as a co-founder of the Center Opera Company in 1963\, now known as Minnesota Opera\, and educator for the next generation of composers. \nA prolific composer in his own right\, Argento’s musical influence extends beyond his own works to those of his students\, many of whom also chose to make Minnesota their home. Led by Chorus Director Celeste Marie Johnson\, the Minnesota Opera Chorus celebrates their compositions alongside Argento’s\, featuring music by Libby Larsen\, David Evan Thomas\, Juliana Hall\, and Stephen Paulus. Many of the poets on the program are also native Minnesotans\, and their words help paint the landscape that holds a unique place in these composers’ hearts. \nGenerously sponsored in part by Gale Sharpe in gratitude for Vern Sutton who sang Dominick’s notes so beautifully.

SUMMARY:Canciones argentinas y mexicanas: Octavio Moreno sings Guastavino & Grever
DESCRIPTION:Baritone Octavio Moreno (Cruzar la Cara de la Luna) will perform a specially curated concert of songs by Carlos Guastavino and María Grever with Mario Antonio Marra (Head of Music\, Director of Resident Artist Program) at the piano. \nArgentine composer Carlos Guastavino wrote around 150 songs for voice and piano\, each reflecting his love of popular musical idioms and folksong and dances. While he wrote instrumental music extensively\, singers in particular were drawn to his melodic writing and the heart so readily accessible in his music. \nMexican composer María Grever wrote over 800 songs\, many of which became popular in both Latin America and the United States\, and many of which marry her love of American jazz with Mexico’s rich musical traditions. Her 1934 hit “Cuando vuelva a tu lado” (later transliterated to “What a difference a day makes”) enshrined her artistic legacy and her compositions have been performed by vocal legends ranging from Enrico Caruso and Frank Sinatra to Aretha Franklin and Gloria Estefan.
